1. Determine emissions standards for
"Well maintained" vehicles.
Owners are required to properly maintain their
vehicles, and this includes minimizing exhaust emissions. This
project is to determine the Government definition of "well
maintained" with regard to the chemical levels in vehicle
exhaust. Tasks will involve working with the Environmental Protection
Department, which regulates emissions, and the Transport Department,
which enforces the license conditions.
2. Patrols
Participate in regular Traffic Safety patrols
to see which vehicles that are idling their engines and polluting
are also not following the Road Traffic Ordinance. Collect and
report the information and make recommendations.
3.
Aggressive driving wastes
30-50% of fuel. This project would include attaching a portable
device to a passenger seat to measure the smoothness of the
driving and the likely wasted fuel from poor driving.
Speeding is a major cause
of fuel wastage. This project would be to determine the optimum
legal speed for every minibus route in Hong Kong, and then check
these routes to see if drivers are driving within the safe and
legal speed.
